If I fail to write immediately after an event occurs, the memories fade quickly into my Alzheimer's brain. Which begs the reason why I need to take pics and in so doing, usually carry my camera around with me at each notable occurrence.
But how do you take pictures of the end of Lent? You don't.
Just imagine me wearily staying up past midnight on the 39th day of "fasting" from my "desire"- in this case, sugar (aka, chocolate)- and happily realizing 40 days of Lent had expired while I was stuffing Easter baskets with some edible goodies. I knelt down for a quick prayer of gratitude, acknowledging the gift of the Savior, His sacrifices, His ministry, His fasting on behalf of mankind. I thanked God for the lessons I needed to relearn about chocolate giving me zits, heartburn, and a tighter waste line. About sacrifice, wants vs. need, desire, faith, humility and reliance- because I'm certain that before I undertook this adventure I was secure in my attitude about such things, and boy was I wrong.
Then, on day 40 at some absurd time in the night, I ate some coconut Hershey kisses and went to bed feeling divine all over.
Lent felt good on me. Can't wait to do it again next year.
