Easter Saturday

Even today, Aspen still talks about Lee like he's her best friend. "Remember at Lee's house" or, "Let's make a chicken coup like Lee's, his was cool". I say "Lee, Lee who?", when it finally hits me. Lee was my daughters hero, a man who made her Easter egg hunt dreams come true. Of course anything Lee did, does or has is cool.

Each year Lee and his wife put on an invitation only/RSVP Easter Egg Hunt. Mick was the lucky recipient on an invitation because Lee, a Comcast Salesman, and Mick meet up at weekly Friday meetings and Lee was passing out invitations en masse. A few days prior to Easter while discussing our hunting plans, Mick mentioned our invitation. "Let's do it. Might be fun" I suggested and with a phone call minutes later, our reservation was accepted. Not knowing what to expect at Lee's hunt, the Perkins Family headed to Fresh Market to get pictures with the Easter Bunny, then out to a hunt in North Logan. Six eggs a piece later, the kids were happy and had had fun. Mission accomplished!
Hunt #1
Driving up to the Providence bench, I had a slow sinking sensation that we might be way out of our league at Lee's Easter Egg Hunt. Thankfully I had put my two cents into the opinion of my childrens' wardrobe for the afternoon. Their dress wasn't the best, and they likely had food on their shirts from lunch, but it could have been far worse, and you'll have to trust me on that one.

When we pulled up to Lee's property, I could not believe my eyes. Here we were, smack dab in the middle of all my Easter egg hunt dreams I dreamed as a child. It was as if the Easter Bunny himself saw this plot of land, deemed it his Garden of Eden and began planting eggs of several colors and sizes spaced no more than a foot apart.

Lo and behold, the Easter Bunny was in attendance. In a matter of minutes, a family picture was taken, developed and placed in a frame to take home. Next, there was a full display of deviled eggs all decked out as chicks, skewers of fresh fruit, chocolate covered strawberries, some meat dishes, salads, drinks- the works. About 20 round tables were available for cookie and cupcake decorating and egg colors. My eyes have never beheld so many boiled eggs! We made ourselves at home eating skewers of fruit and cotton candy from, no less, the cotton candy machine that had every child a buzz.

Having time before the hunt started, we ventured around Lee's home garden. It was amazing. Rows and rows of grape vines divided the orchard from the flower garden which was ripe with daffodils waiting to blossom. Just over a hill path laden with bricks, stood the finest hen house ever constructed with a pebble rock base and ornate wooden door. From the hen house was a small yard connected to a large side yard by a maze of chicken wire paths. A million beautiful hens- who no doubt supplied the millions of eggs, spent their happy days grazing, mazing and laying. One box garden area was covered with "Grand Prize" gifts. This spurred the girls' attention.

With nearly 4,000 plastic eggs to 45 kids, the take home of the hunt was ridiculous. Inside some eggs were silly bands, certificates for prizes such as silly string, Large or small chocolate bunnies, stickers, random toys, and of course certificates for grand prize gifts. Between the three girls, we found 6 grand prize gifts and lots of silly string and sticker certificates. The girls made out like bandits and had the time of their lives!

Thanks Lee!
