2010 was birthday party year. My mean, yet equally economically friendly mother-self, limits friend parties to every other year. In the long run I envision my children being more thankful for those special times which came in fewer, infrequent number. In the short run, I get to keep my sanity. In twenty years I suppose I'll know if this tactic worked how I imagined.
Aspen's birthday is always difficult. Christmas with all its' festivities looms overhead and money and time becomes tight. I envisioned throwing a party in January. Fresh new snow hills, sledding, hot cocoa and pizza for all 50,000 friends she wished to invite. As luck would have it, the snow came early, then left just in time for the party Aspen demanded be in December. Still, I was not feeling up to par, but it was 2010 and I had promised to deliver.
