In anticipation of Mom's Week off (yes, Mick plays mom for approximately a week, while I flee. He is way cool, uh?), I wanted to spend time with the girls so they would not feel abandoned when they come home from school and I'm gone. With Mick off at the Big Sky Basketball Tournament in Ogden, I took up the opportunity for a girls night. In hindsight, I should have done something more on their level like roaming a toy store, or finger nail painting- but with the pukes lingering and surprises in potty training adventures, I left the car seats in Micks vehicle, on purpose. We settled for making homemade macaroni and cheese, popcorn and Where the Wild Things Are.
For the past couple weeks Aspen has been hearing of my upcoming plans and emphasizing "how unfair" it is that I "get to go away" by myself and not take her with me. Little does she know how fair it really is... in her direction! Something tells me she'll understand why, one of these years.
I loved cooking with Aspen, popping corn with Liberty and cuddling with all three of them on our tiny Love Seat. Life seems to fly by and I hardly get a night to 'sit' with the girls. I wish I could do it more often.
After the movie we read stories. Liberty fell asleep with the light a blaze overhead and Aspen and I finished reading Sam and the Moon Queen. I will realize I miss my ladies after about three days. This realization occurs every year. But a break- now that I'm looking forward too. Steamboat Colorado, I can't wait to snowshoe in your powder and soak in your hot springs.
Here's hoping Mick has Abbie all poop trained by the time I return!
You are such the fun mom! I'm jealous of your vacay even if it is from one cold climate to another! Did Where the Wild Things Are Traumatize you or your kids? I love the book so much that I think the movie was too gruesome and depressing.
ReplyDeleteOoooooh, I am soooooo jealous of your self-time. Man, it is so true that that time makes you a better person. You can go fill your cup and come home and let it flow! :)
ReplyDeleteEnjoy it! Be present and make it worth it.
