A BIG Deal

Not sure why, but I have a serious case of the pre-race jitters. Mick laughed last time I told him that and said "I don't know why- it's only running".

Only running...for 13.1 miles? Thoughts of the mileage alone makes me jittery. He does make a good point. What ever do I have to be nervous about?

Since the beginning of May I've been steadily working myself up to run the Top of Utah Half Marathon. Tomorrow marks the culmination of all my hard work and training. I can hardly wait to cross another item off my bucket list and to start a new one!

A big thanks to Mick for allowing me to get my long runs in and realizing their importance to me. I'm dedicating my first mile to him! Also mile #2 to Aspen, #3 to Liberty, and # 4 to Abbie Rose. Mile 5 goes out to my mom for birthing me and giving me legs so I could run, and to dad for his job in the aforementioned processes and their support of my crazy goals, aspirations and dreams. I get mile 6, solely for the fact that it's my favorite number and the tail wind at this point in the course should set the wings on my feet sailing high and fast. 7 goes out to Jesi for her encouragement, friendship, and back struggles, wish you could have continued running with me Jes, but I shall be your legs tomorrow! Miles 8-10 are open for anyone needing a little inspirational kick in life. Let me know and the mile will be dedicated to you! 11 is on behalf of my Aunt Sheila. She is the sole reason I run. I miss her and continue to live life in her honor doing things I know she could not do, but would have loved to had her body allowed. She inspires me to do better, be better and achieve more. Mile 12 is dedicated to all uphill battles that life has offered to me and to others, as this part of the course is the uphill bridge to the downhill stretch that marks the finish line.

Wish me luck and know that I'm carrying a piece of all of you with me! Thank You for all the support many of you have given me in this running adventure. Could not have done it without your encouragement!

See you at the finish line.

  1. Ok I haven't been nervous at all this week to be honest until I read your post! :) I've been so busy with school that I haven't given it the thought process it has deserved. I just know that I"m so grateful we ran what we did last Saturday or I think I would be in such a different place mentally. We can do this! Regardless of time, regardless if I have to walk the last 3 miles, I can do it! Go us!

  2. You are going to be fabulous. Believe me, most everyone is going through the exact same thing. I'm right there with you sister! I just want to get my feet on the road and get started...and I still have a marathon to run in 5 weeks. EEEEK! I'll look for you.

  6. If I had read this earlier I would have taken mile #9, because it means you are 3/4ths of the way there. And just because I share your new found love of running and its benefits, even though I don't do it anymore!
