Chameleon Style

Liberty sits outside in the drive way. I can see her out the window. She is knee down to the concrete with a thick piece of green Easter chalk drawing people- skirts and all! Her lips are moving and faintly I can hear her belting out in song. I love this girl. She is always happy!

I picked her up as Libby the lizard today. Maybe a chameleon by the looks of all the colors on her face and the changing times in her life. Tomorrow marks the end of her preschool days. I'm sad about it though I am not sure she is.

Although pregnant at the time, I recall crying my eyeballs out on Aspen's last day of preschool. This year I've set up preventative measures against my emotions and am letting Mick accompany her to school on her last day. I doubt it will work, but it's worth a shot!

On the ride home today I informed her tomorrow was her last day and asked her how she felt about it. This is what she said:
Now I get to go to Aspen's school. Remember, you got me shots so now I'm big!
So matter of fact, like vaccinations were the qualifying factor in kindergarten acceptance.

I asked her why she could not just stop growing, why she could not stay little forever. She simply replied, "cause I want to get big mom".
So there you have it, the secret to staying young by Liberty Perkins. The fountain of youth is not a gimmick, a lotion, a magic pill or even healthy living for that matter. Just tell yourself you never want to get big and you wont. Simple as that.

Now how do I force her into feeling like she never wants to get big?

  1. Hello there, I wandered on in from Modern Molly:) Love you post about transition times. It's always kind of a bitter sweet feeling. Speaking of "big", my youngest graduates from high school and is off to college in the fall. So now I guess she IS big:)

  2. I have tried talking my kids into staying little, but it doesn't work. They can't be convinced (until they realize they older they get the more chores they have to do, that's the ticket)

  3. Hallie is constantly telling me she is growing big "like a mom." She wants to be the mom, and she wants me to be "the girl." If only! Libby is such a sweet girl!
