First Day of First Grade

The halls of Ellis Elementary bustled with nervous excitement yesterday as it was the first day of school. Aspen was excited and also apprehensive. It seemed that every friend we ran into this summer was going to be in a different class than her. I'm sure she envisioned herself as the only possible student in Mrs. Schmidt's class. Of course she waved excitedly at a few friends when Liberty, Abbie and I dropped her off. That made me feel a little better as I'm certain it did for Aspen. When I asked her to tell me about her first day she said "we get three recesses and I got 20 soar slips (rewards), and no one was listening to Mrs. Schmidt". Sounds like school is back in session to me! She proceeded to tell me that for school lunch "you get free milk mom, I promise". I had made her a lunch to take in her Hannah Montana Lunch Box, I suppose we now have a bill for .30 cents. I do hope she drinks what I sent her today. I told her she can eat school lunch on Fridays. I think it's a little pricey! Besides, I like knowing she's eating a healthy lunch. It is so quiet having Aspen gone all day. Today there is no one for Libby to argue with and parenting has been alot less like refereeing- Hooray for that! Here's our newest 1st grader! She loved wearing her Jumper! She is walking home by herself today! A big step in the Perkins household. I'm sure she will make it just fine!

  1. That is such a cute photo! She looks so grown[up! Is that the school in the background? How far away is your school? I cant believe Mick would let her walk home alone from school, so I'm sure it must be close! Our school doesn't start for like 10 more days. That's crazy that it's already her second day today. But I'm already looking forward to it. You know how you love when summer shows up, and are equally as happy when school starts again? Crazy, but true! When does Libby's preschool start? I'm sure your house seems so much quieter already!

  3. I'm sure Jen will write a Blog about this. But on Aspens second day of school she never made it home, after an hour of Jen and I and the ward and Comcast searching the police were called in, ill leave the rest up to Jen to tell. A very scary day in Logan for the Perkins family.
