I started my first piano lesson this morning. I could not believe how well my fingers moved. I always assumed they would not work so well. Granted, all I had to do was find some keys and play a three measure warm up, and six measure songs, but, I was terrified how it would all go. I am now feeling positive, that come what may, I will be able to play something! My goal is to learn to play most all the hymns ( I hear some are rough), and then I'll go on from there.
Aspen is taking with me as well. She is not to keen on the structure. Her mind wanders frequently. I really want to create musically inclined children (as I was not). I'm just not sure how to force the issue. I suppose I will have to be the mean mom and enforce piano. Ideally, I would love for her to love it. Part of me thinks, in time she will. After the drama of Lesson #1, I can plainly see how some parents give up! I shall persevere, wish me luck.
A friend in the ward wanted to teach me for free- yes, few things still come free in the world. She wants to learn to be a better teacher and I want to learn, so this benefits us equally. Aspen is a couple of bucks each time. Not a bad set up. The only problem, I don't have a piano. The Bishop acquisitioned a key to the church for my lesson and practice. A few days ago, his wife called and said she had a key board they are not using, if I'm interested I could borrow it. The plan is coming together. One problem, I have to cut my nails short- ahhh! This is similar to losing a limb for me. I use my nails for everything! I will do it for piano. Oh, the sacrifices I must make! Mick will be sad as well, for the back scratches will not be the same.
That is funny about the nails sacrifice! I never could grow my nails, you lucky girl! Ammon took his first year of piano this year, and his piano teacher moved halfway through the year, so I've been teaching him the last 3 months. We actually just had our last lesson today! Hooray! It's funny that he's finishing for the year just as Aspen is starting! I was actually thinking today about posting a piano blog! Too funny that you had the same thoughts!
ReplyDeleteOne of my most favorite things to do in the whole world is play the piano. One day, Aspen will come to love and appreciate that talent! My mom had to force me at first to practice. But the better I got, the more I wanted to learn. I'm proud of you! The piano has taught me a lot about life, weirdly enough. It is my saving grace when I need a break from the world.
ReplyDeleteIt's Tawna again. I want to come see the girls soon, I miss them so much. I was thinking maybe Sunday night I could sleepover? I think I would feel up to it by then..if not, sometime next week?
ReplyDeleteI have to admit I am a little jealous. I would love to take piano lessons. Do you know anyone who teaches violin lessons for kids?
