On the list of Things to do in Logan is ice block Old Main. Since this seemed like a reasonably fun and safe adventure, Vanessa and I decided to take the kids.
Old Main hill is a nice steep grassy area on the western edge of Utah State University. I've seen people ice block it in summer months, jello slide it in the fall, surf mattresses down it in the spring rain, and ride any sort of device down it's snow covered hill in the winter. It is popular and notoriously dangerous because of its steep terrain and the road below it. Most times I have enjoyed sledding down it in winter months, I have witnessed someone writhing in pain at the base of the hill, then set up the millions of stairs to do it all over again.
After thinking twice about hiking Old Main Hill a billion times with a chunk of ice, and the safety factor, we decided to change our venue to Mount Logan Park. We picked up four blocks of ice, brought some towels for sitting on, and went to the huge bowl of the park to slide to our hearts content.
