Kisses were common place in my home, which now as an adult, I realize are unfortunately quite foreign in may families. Even so, dad got a kiss when he left for work, a kiss when he came home- possibly one in the driveway before he made it out of his truck. Today, we continue to share a kiss when we greet and depart.
Kisses all around, and it works for us. I've spread this lovely tradition to my children, of course. Kisses when they leave for school, sometimes when they come home. Before bed. When they are at their most peaceful, sleeping. Rarely with morning breath- but definitely when I come home or leave for work. Unfortunately, there comes a time when "The kissing drought" begins: during cold sore time.
All of this kissing is why as an adult, I can now attribute my cold sore virus to my dad. Likely I received one of his lovely kisses as a child and inherited the virus from his blistery lip. Thanks Dad! Just sharing the love, I get it. You didn't know better, and besides restraining kisses is hard to do. I concur.
I owe my beautiful cold sore face from my first, or was it my second grade school photo?- to Dad. My brain grimaces each time I remember that photo. Yuck! I vow to never kiss my children or hubby, when I've got a whopper on my lip. My goal is to never pass the cold sore trait onto the next generation. Even going so far as not kissing my newborn for over a tempting week when a giant after-birth cold sore reared its ugly head.
But now, after hearing this nasty story which everyone avoids talking about because it,s the dreaded... dare I say it... Herpes Virus (but only on the mouth people!), I have hope to offer. Hope in the form of L-Lysine. I had always heard it helped cold sores, but I had little success with it until now.
Luckily, my mom's friend Cathy suffers from the same ailment and knows some high-school-chemist-teacher-guy who developed a natural miracle to fight off cold sores and their hurtful effects when they flare up. Here it is for all of you closet cold sore fighters. May this help stop your suffering when your next flare up occurs:
From some miracle man- I wish I knew his name, and him, so I could give him a big thank you kiss!:
At first tingle (and you know what I mean by tingle)-
Take 3000mg L-lysine every four hours for one day.
Day 2-
Take 2000mg L-lysine every four hours for two days
Day 4-
Take 1000mg L-lysine twice a day until it goes away.
I promise, your cold sore will go away if you catch it quick. No longer will a cold sore get bigger (than that first tingle size) and fester with bump after cursed bump. No longer will it swell up your glands and make your face feel like it's falling off one skin cell at a time. No longer will you experience kissing droughts lasting more than 5 days. What could be better than that?
Buy your L-Lysine bottle today and have it on hand! Located with all other vitamins, minerals, and holistic healing supplies, in your local grocery store- and seriously, it's cheap too!
This totally works. I actually just take 1000 mg of L-Lysine every day. It has built up my immunity to them. Then, if I do feel a tingle of one starting, I take an additional 1000mg a day for a couple of days, the core sore does not actually take form. It is really great! :-)
ReplyDeleteDo you think this would be safe for children? My five year old gets them easily.
ReplyDeleteIt's true! Ben used to get cold sores all the time and he swears by L-Lysine. I liked your comment on my blog. You should definitely do a sewing day with your girls--preferrably on a day when there is not much going on. You can do it! Love you Jen!
ReplyDeleteJen, great idea. I will load up daily and see how this prevents. Annie- Maybe 1/3 of an adult dose for a child? Check online? That is a good question. Thanks Mistie, for the vote of confidence and love.
