Trepicitement

Not sure what I may have been thinking when I said yes, but I've committed to doing my first triathlon. The Cache Valley Super Sprint Triathlon.

Maybe it was that incessant part of me that believes in trying most things once- minus 'bad stuff' of course. Besides, I might actually have a reason to purchase a new/used bike. Maybe it was my need to get cracking on a new adventure, aka- swimming, road biking. It very well could have been positive peer pressure. Either reason, I'm for sure experiencing a cross between trepidation and excitement. Trepicitement?

My first attempt at swimming begins early tomorrow morning. Real swimming, real early, and not the doggy kind. I'm nervous for a few reasons- a) fear of getting into a swimsuit, b) my novice swimming abilities, and c) fear of getting into a swimsuit, did I mention that one already?

A swimsuit and I go together like a giant irregularly shaped jello jiggler in tight spandex- too much poking out. Mix that visual with frantic arms and legs attempting to keep said jiggler afloat and... eeerrrrt! stop that visual before it no longer leaves your head. Just trust me on this one!

Good thing I also believe in facing my fears.

Thankfully this triathlon is a sprint tri, which means each leg is only 1/2 the distance of a regular triathlon. The 500 meter(.3 mile) swim is first, followed by a 12.5 mile bike, and then a 5k (3.1 mile) run. Because the training schedule seems relatively doable, I'm hopeful this out of shape body will survive 7 weeks of training and be in suitable swim shape for the July event. Suitable being the key word.

If you'd like to join some friends and I, let me know!

  1. Hey! Can you tell me what your schedule is for training? Thinking about doing a sprint here with a neighbor. Best Luck! I'm sure you'll do great!

  2. You will love it! I have done that tri 3x and it is exhilarating. The bike ride is great, the run is flat and you'll find your legs go about the same pace as you were pedaling (such a wierd sensation at first). The swimming was my least favorite because I am so slow and people kept passing me and one lady could swim breast stroke faster than my crawl and kicked me in the chest as she passed! But in the end YOU WILL LOVE IT!
