Perkins Family Top Ten in 2009- and afterword

Perkins Family
Top Ten of 2009
10. Since last years' surgery, Mick officially declared his retirement from basketball. We are currently awaiting his monthly check. As for the Aggies- football is improving.

9. Jen believes dreams come true with hard work, dedication, and an untold amount of lies one must tell themselves to run a half marathon, or to be a mother for that matter.

8. Aspen is “not girlie anymore!” since she plays soccer with boys. Second grade has brought her home everyday after school (hallelujah!), her first crush- on no!, and more opportunities to write, read and do creative art to her hearts content.

7. Liberty narrowly escaped tragedy when she attempted to “kill” a rattlesnake by stomping on it. We count our blessings that our sweet comedian is still with us; a big kindergartner who loves school, ballet, scooter riding and her new red sequin tutu.

6. Unaware, we received a new pet: a hairless talking monkey. Oh wait- it is only Abbie in disguise on the counter top! At age two, her old parents can hardly keep up. Secretly they hope her disguise next year is of a sleepy, calm sloth. Wishful thinking?

5. Sadly we mourned the passing of Grandma Perkins in October. We miss her wisdom, her laugh and her love. The blessing she left us was the opportunity to have all of Mick's siblings together for the first time- even Lisa. Now we miss Lisa too.

4. Yellowstone was the site of the 2009 Perkins Family Reunion. We enjoyed fresh air, endless steam, towering pines, lakeside cabins, magnificent geysers and getting three kids in and out of their seat belts 50,000 times!

3. After 8 years, Mick granted Jen her dream kitchen wishes: A dishwasher, adequate counter space, open floor plan, easy clean walnut floors, and dining space! Mick gained Betty Crocker in exchange for a small fortune and many work filled nights.

2. Aspen turned eight this December and is excited about her choice to be baptized into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints by her dad.

1. The only thing missing in 09' was a new minivan. So, if you are out and you happen to see Santa- please remind him we are on the nice list. Thank you.

We are grateful for our Savior Jesus Christ, our many blessings, and for you in our lives.
Much Love- Mick, Jen, Aspen, Liberty and Abbie

Afterword:
Mick spoiled me rotten and had a Dodge Caravan waiting in the driveway on Christmas morning. I LOVE it and officially feel like a minivan mom!

I bid a temporary farewell to Chief B on December 30. I will honor Grandpa and his life in another post. It was hard to watch him die, but I am the better for the sacred, humbling  experience his passing provided me. His presence will be missed.

  1. What a year, what a decade.
I love your Top Ten list! This has been my favorite one yet!
Such a loss in one year, too. Mick's grandma and your grandpa. I'm thinking of you, and sending you love!

  2. Great list Jen. Alex too was a monkey. He used to climb on top of the refrigerator everytime I turned my back! He has improved so there is hope - you might only have to wait for fifteen more years, hahaha.
