I want to be the cheater, so I can win!

We love to go for bike rides in the summer, nothing can beat the wind in your hair! With the rising cost of gas, and my goal to not drive unless absolutely necessary, we are biking more frequently. To the grocery store, the library, the parks, downtown, and for other errands. This year, Libby has graduated from the bike trailer to her big girl pink bike, complete with fringes, before she pulled them all out! I knew she would be a bit speedier this summer. We still fail to hit mach speed without her in the trailer, but it makes me happy to know that she is having a great time and getting good exercise. She follows biking rules well, wears her helmet, and gets tired legs frequently.

The other day we ventured to the Library. Liberty and Aspen were playing a game of 'I can go faster then you', with the older sister ending up victorious most of the time. Libby became frustrated. She stopped, hung her head down and waited for me to catch up (I was on foot). She said to me seriously "I want to be the cheater, so I can win." What a great teaching opportunity! I took it right away. "Cheaters never win", I explained, "they only cheat themselves out of winning the correct way". I told her that she will always do the best she can, if she tries her hardest, and that winning is not as important as having a great time trying. I think she understood the philosophy as she is seeming more competent in her abilities and not worried about competing with Aspen. Hummmmmmmmmmm, I wonder where her cheating philosophy came from? Can you tell who likes to cheat in our family? One child obviously does not get it.
