Statue in a Store

March 3, 2008

While twirling to the joy of the radio, head back as far as she could let it loose, Aspen suddenly stops, mid spin, and says whimsically “let's play we're a statue in the store!” Instantly, I struck my modeling pose with the rigidity and poise of one of those size 0 ladies, and I was connected. Connected to Aspen's world of make believe. Trying to conceal the subtle movement of my diaphragm, I could barely feel myself breathing. My vision was starting to go cross-eyed. All was silent except for the eventual sound of my eyelids blinking. “I saw your eyes blink”, Aspen laughed. I tried to hide the corners of my mouth from curling upward as I saw her and Liberty strike a pose. They were so porcelain like until the one leg they were balancing on caused their body to topple over. This 'game' went on like this for quite sometime. I enjoyed the giggling followed by silence, followed by giggling and then silence again.

Later that day, I said to Mick “Lets play were a statue in a store”. He asked questionably “What”? So I made a pose. He rolled his eyes and gave me a 'you are a crazy woman look'. Aspen no doubt would have thought me cool to start playing this game again. Mick, however, wondered what planet I was from.
